The silver scabbardfish is an eel-like predatory fish found in deep, cool waters. It forms schools and migrates upward at night to feed. Known also as cutlassfish or frostfish, it can reach over two meters long.
Where they live
Found mainly on continental shelves and upper slopes at depths of 40 to 620 meters, typically over sandy or muddy bottoms. Occurs in the Atlantic, Indian Ocean, and Mediterranean, sometimes coming nearshore at night.
