Sea trout are versatile fish found in both freshwater and coastal waters. They are territorial as juveniles and shift habitats as they mature. Adults are active predators that feed on a variety of smaller fish and crustaceans.

Where they live

Sea trout live in freshwater, brackish, and saltwater habitats across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. Juveniles inhabit inlets and lakes, while adults range in shallow to moderately deep waters up to 28 meters.
