The Scaly rockcod is a deepwater fish found mainly beyond 300 meters depth. It has a fusiform body and grows up to 30 cm in length. This species feeds primarily on amphipods, polychaetes, and small fishes in the cold oceans.

Inhabits saltwater regions of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans, commonly found below 300 meters depth down to nearly 1200 meters.
