The sauger is a freshwater game fish related to perch, known for its elongated body and predatory behavior. It thrives mainly in rivers with sandy or gravelly bottoms and is also found in some lakes and reservoirs. Anglers target sauger for their spirited fight and tasty flesh.
Where they live
Commonly found in North American rivers over sand and gravel runs, sandy or muddy pools, and backwaters. Also occasional in lakes and impoundments, typically in shallow waters around 5 meters deep.
