Sablefish, also known as black cod, are deepwater predators found mainly in the Pacific Ocean. They have a fusiform body and can reach up to 120 cm in length. Juveniles live near the surface, while adults inhabit depths between 305 and 2740 meters.

Sablefish are found in deep Pacific Ocean waters off North America, typically on muddy bottoms from 305 to 2740 meters deep. Juveniles live nearshore and surface waters, sometimes migrating long distances.
