The Patchwork lampfish is a small deep-sea fish known for its elongated body and bioluminescent features. It inhabits ocean depths ranging from near the surface at night to deep mesopelagic zones during the day. This species feeds selectively on plankton and small crustaceans in open ocean waters.

Found in high-oceanic waters of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans, ranging from the surface at night to depths of over 2,000 meters during the day.
