The Longspined porcupinefish is a medium-sized, spiny fish known for inflating its body as a defense mechanism. It has a robust, deep body covered with sharp spines and inhabits tropical reefs and soft-bottom habitats. This species is a predator and commonly forms small groups when young.

Where they live

Found in shallow to deep waters around reefs and soft muddy bottoms in the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, including North American saltwaters. Prefers lagoon and seaward reefs as well as rocky and coral substrates.
