The largemouth yellowfish is the largest scale-bearing native fish in southern Africa. It grows to impressive sizes and is a top river predator. This species thrives in flowing waters but adapts well to dam environments.
Where they live
Found in southern African freshwater systems, especially flowing rivers with deep channels and below rapids; also thrives in dams. Spawns over gravel beds in running water during mid to late summer.
