The Indian mottled eel has an elongated, eel-like body and can grow up to two meters long. It inhabits a variety of water types including freshwater rivers and reservoirs, brackish estuaries, and coastal saltwater areas during early and late life stages. This eel is common throughout Indian inland waters and is valued as a game fish.
Where they live
Found in freshwater streams, pools, reservoirs, mud substrates, and deep rock pools across India, also occurring in nearby brackish and marine waters during life cycle stages.
