The horse-eye jack is a fast-swimming, schooling fish commonly found near offshore reefs. It is known to approach divers and can live in saltwater, brackish water, and freshwater environments. This predator feeds primarily on smaller fish and crustaceans.

Where they live

Found in tropical and subtropical waters of the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico, horse-eye jacks inhabit offshore reefs and sometimes enter brackish waters and rivers. Juveniles often stay near sandy beaches and muddy bottoms.
