The deepbody boarfish is a short, deep-bodied fish found mostly along continental slopes. Juveniles inhabit mid-water zones while adults are benthic. They primarily feed on small molluscs and crustaceans.

Lives on continental slopes from 50 to 900 meters deep in the Atlantic Ocean, favoring benthic zones as adults with juveniles in mid-water.
