The Caspian lamprey is a non-parasitic, eel-like fish found in freshwater and brackish waters of Europe and Asia. It spends its early life as a larva buried in sandy or clay sediments, feeding on detritus and algae. Adults can grow up to about 55 cm in length and inhabit shallow to moderately deep waters.

Lives in freshwater and brackish environments across Europe and Asia, often inhabiting sandy and clay substrates from 1 to 22 meters deep.
