The broadbanded thornyhead is a deepwater fish known for inhabiting steep and rugged sea bottoms. It feeds on a variety of bottom and pelagic organisms, including brittle stars, amphipods, and young squids. This species can reach up to 44 cm in length and is recognized by its broad fins and thorny appearance.

Where they live

Found in deep Pacific saltwater regions, typically along steep slopes and sharp bends of the sea bottom between 257 and 1537 meters deep. Prefers areas with turbulent currents that concentrate food.
