The Blacktail snapper is a striking marine fish known for its black tail and vibrant body. It thrives near reefs and sheltered coastal areas, exhibiting predatory behavior by hunting small fish and crustaceans. Juveniles often inhabit estuaries and even freshwater streams before moving to deeper waters as adults.
Where they live
Found inshore near lagoons and protected reefs across the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian Ocean, and Oceania. Prefers sheltered locations with deep holes or large boulders, from shallow waters around 1 meter down to 80 meters. Juveniles frequent estuaries and mangrove swamps, sometimes venturing into freshwater.
