The Amazon pellona is a freshwater and brackish water fish found in South American rivers. It is a predatory species that hunts aquatic invertebrates, insects, shrimp, and smaller fish. Known as a game fish, it can grow up to 80 cm in length and weigh up to 7.1 kg.

Found in South American rivers, mainly freshwater but tolerates some brackish water near the Amazon River mouth. Does not typically enter the open sea.
